The assignment was to come up with a t-shirt design for the Founders Day celebration at Otterbein. The main focus of the shirt was supposed to be the backwards "N" that is found on the plaque outside of Towers Hall. "Thinking Differently" was what the shirts would read. I first began the assignment by brainstorming different ideas that I thought fit the topic. I wanted to incorporate the backwards "N" into the word "thinking" for sure. Once I messed around with a few ideas there were several that I wanted to take a step further. I really liked the idea of the light bulb. The phrase "thinking differently" made me think of coming up with new, original ideas. A light bulb was a graphic symbol that I could easily modify to fit the needs of the design. A second design that I came up with was a silhouette of a head that was cracked open with backwards "N's" spilling out of it. This idea was more focused on the idea of the backwards "N" rather than the idea of thinking differently. I decided to go with the first design, which was the light bulb design. While this design was not as focused on the backwards "N," it is still a very prominent part of the design. As far as executing the design went I had more problems than I originally thought I would. Illustrator was a new software to me, and it definitely took me quite a while to get used to. I decided that to get the look that I wanted with my design, scanning an image in was the best option. Once the image was scanned in I was able to go in through illustrator and add to the design as well as add text. The image to the right is the original image I scanned into the computer.
